The order which was approved by parliment in june 2006 will affect ALL NON DOMESTIC BUILDINGS IN ENGLAND & WALES.
The new law will affect anyone who is responsible for business premises, an employer, self employed with a business premises a charity or voluntary organisation or a contractor with a degree of control over any premises.
The main requirement is that employers and building owners should carry out a fire risk assessment record these findings and act on the findings.
Enforcing authorities (usually fire authorities) will be inspecting premises to make sure you comply.
Fire risk assessment is no longer an option under this new legislation
- you must carry out a fire risk assessment of your entire wirk place
- you must provide adequate provisions for people with disability
- you must provide and maintain adequate fire precautions
